University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is the largest hospital in the south west peninsula, providing comprehensive secondary and tertiary healthcare and employing over 8,000 staff. Our geography gives us a secondary care catchment population of 450,000 with a wider peninsula population of almost 2m people who access our specialist services. The population is characterised by its diversity – the rural and the urban, the wealthy and pockets of deprivation, and wide variance in health and life expectancy. As a regional specialist teaching hospital, we provide comprehensive training and education for a wide range of healthcare professionals, working in partnership with both Peninsula School of Medicine and Dentistry and the University of Exeter Medical School.

We are working hard with partners across Devon’s Sustainable Transformation Plan and more locally in Plymouth to improve the services available for patients.

Healthier Lives: Making a Difference

Our ambition is simple: to support our local and regional population in leading Healthier Lives and, when the time comes, to support them in dying with dignity in the place of their choosing with their loved ones.

We are now seeking an exceptional leader to join us in the role of Future Hospital Director, to provide clear leadership and direction in respect of estates and facilities management; thereby ensuring an excellent environment for the delivery of patient care both today and for generations to come.  As part of the national Health Infrastructure Programme, we are currently developing our long term clinical strategy and our Strategic Outline Case for infrastructure required to deliver that vision, including plans for the creation of an Urgent and Emergency Care Hospital. The Future Hospital Director will work collaboratively with stakeholders and partners across the region to transform care for the benefit of our population, aligning strategies and consulting on options as appropriate. As a member of the Board, the Future Hospital Director will contribute to the development and delivery of the wider organisation agenda, including implementation of the Trust’s strategic vision.

The successful candidate will bring excellent managerial leadership experience, with specific experience of delivering major strategic infrastructure projects, coupled with a clear focus on patient centred support services.
