We are inviting applicants to join our well established and dynamic team of Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (ANNP). The successful candidate will already be a qualified ANNP through completion of the MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice. 

Derby Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a 24 bedded Level 2 purpose built unit providing medical care for premature and sick infants, it has 7 ITU and HDU cots and is part of the East Midlands Operational Delivery Network (North Hub). We are a Joint Trust with Burton-on-Trent who have a 14 bedded Neonatal Unit, and with whom we work closely with to provide high quality care across the region. We promote Family Integrated Care and have a positive and forward thinking attitude to the care of the family as a unit. We have achieved stage 1 BLISS accreditation and are working toward stage 2. We are part of the Baby Friendly Initiative promoting and supporting breast feeding for all our babies no matter how small. We offer allied services support from our onsite Physiotherapist, Psychologist, Community Family Care Sisters and a Speech Therapist, along with other Volunteer Services and a dedicated Community Midwifery Team.

Job Purpose 

You will work on the Tier 1 Medical Rota covering NICU, Delivery suite and Postnatal Ward. You will hold the ST1-ST3 bleep.

You will have excellent and up-to-date clinical skills, knowledge and understanding of the needs of the sick neonate and their families. You will also be able to prioritize, use your own initiative, thrive under pressure and manage difficult situations effectively to ensure the provision of excellent patient care within the unit.

Knowledge, training and skills required

  • First level Registered Nurse (child/adult)/Midwife with post basic neonatal qualification
  • Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner qualification at master’s level or equivalent.
  • Highly developed specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and experience gained through extensive post neonatal qualification in NICU.
  • Able to demonstrate the appropriate competencies and skills for the role.
  • Ability to meet the highly complex needs of the sick ventilated infant requiring full nursing and medical support.
  • Nurse Independent Prescribing (NMC Recorded).
  • Evidence of continuous professional development in neonatal care.
  • Ability to work using own initiative and as part of a Multi-disciplinary Team.
  • Evidence of effective problem solving skills.
  • Completion of neonatal advanced life support course
  • IT skills.
