An exciting new opportunity has arisen to work for an NHS organisation who are seeking to appoint an Interim Head of Communications, for up to 3 months in the first instance.

The postholder will play a critical role in leading corporate communications and engagement across the organisation. As this is a key role, the successful candidate will have significant proven experience at a senior level in a communications or public relations function within the NHS. 

The role will be remunerated under the NHSI Agency Caps at Band 8b/8c. ASAP start.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Provide effective strategic leadership to the Communications Team to meet the overall strategic objectives; 
  • Advise key stakeholders on matters regarding engagement, and strategic and tactical communications;
  • Develop and implement a communications strategy that will enhance the reputation of the organisation both internally and externally;
  • Identify new and emerging issues and risks at an early stage, and develop appropriate handling strategies;
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with local, regional and
  • national media to enhance the image and position of the organisation.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • An education to degree level plus training and/or equivalent level of knowledge acquired through experience;
  • Experience of staff management;
  • Expert knowledge of communications, engagement and public relations;
  • Significant proven experience at a senior level in a communications or public relations function within an NHS organisation.
