We are currently looking for an experienced, compassionate and enthusiastic HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist/Neuropsychologist to join our team, keen to work with patients with progressive neurological conditions.

This is a very exciting chance to join a Neuropsychology Department, with a proud record of supporting staff to gain their QICN qualification, alongside other professional colleagues, to evolve our already highly considered specialist neurorehabilitation services,  including a Parkinson’s Disease service that has gained national and international recognition for their innovative practice.

In this role you will be expected to have experience working with people with progressive neurological conditions, multidisciplinary working (preferably in a neurological rehabilitation setting), and experience carrying out clinical work with both in-patients and outpatients.

Experience of working with patients with other physical disabilities would be useful, but not essential.

Main duties of the job:

To provide a range of neuropsychological input to adults with progressive neuropsychological conditions being seen by Trust specialist rehabilitation services.

To have a role in facilitating provision of psychological input to adults with lower limb amputations at the Trust amputee rehabilitation centre.

To provide consultation, educational and other professional support to MDT colleagues in the business unit, and where agreed, to NHS and other staff, including externally.

To take the lead in providing a Reflective Practice group for MDT colleagues in our clinical area.

To be involved in service development and improvement processes within the Trust for these patient groups.

Where necessary, to deputise for the Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist/Head of Department in administrative, management and clinically focussed meetings, with occasional need to have budgetary responsibilities.

To provide placements and supervision to trainee clinical psychologists from 2 regional courses.

JOB PURPOSE:

To provide a clinical psychology and neuropsychological assessment and treatment service primarily to adult in-patients and out-patients with progressive neuropsychological conditions being provided rehabilitation by University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust specialist rehabilitation services, as well as to patients with other neurological issues on an ad hoc basis when agreed with the Head of Department.

Initially after appointment to this post to have some additional role in the provision of psychological support/intervention to those who require this referred by the adult (lower limb) Amputee Rehabilitation Centre.

KEY REQUIREMENTS OF THE ROLE:

• Post Graduate doctor al level (or equivalent) training in Clinical Psychology as accredited by BPS
• HCPC Registered
• Experience of working as a qualified Clinical Psychologist within a neurorehabilitation setting
• Completion, or near completion, already of the academic element of the QICN.

Dimensions:

Accepting referrals from other clinicians within the business unit, to work autonomously as a Clinical Psychologist/Neuropsychologist within professional and Trust guidelines, policies and procedures, being accountable for own caseload, taking on primary clinical responsibility for services provided by the Department to patients with progressive neurological conditions. 

Provision of consultation, educational and other professional support to MDT colleagues within the business unit, and to wider staff groups within the Trust, and other service providers, who have input to this patient group. In doing so, to be involved as appropriate, in development of treatment pathways.

Where necessary, to deputise for the Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist/Head of Department at operational and strategic meetings, and in administrative/financial matters.

KEY RESULT AREAS:                                                          

• Provision of agreed levels of in-patient and outpatient activity neuropsychological activity with this client group, particularly alongside MDT colleagues from our Neurological Outpatient Therapy service, and our Parkinson’s Disease Service that has received national and international recognition of service quality.
• Providing highly specialist opinion, consultation and neuropsychological assessment, care and treatment of adult neuropsychology patients, and providing support and advice for patients’ families and carers, and, on a case by case basis, using appropriate means of communication about this with referrers, GPs and other parties requiring such information.
• Involvement in provision of psychological support/intervention to those who require this referred by the Amputee Rehabilitation Centre. It is intended that our Departmental responsibility for this service will cease and  be taken on by a clinically more appropriate (non-neuropsychological) service, so gradually withdrawing from providing clinical input to this group as an alternative provision is identified and commissioned, with involvement in discussions and decision making surrounding this.
• Delivering teaching at least twice a year, alongside other Department members, aimed at developing staff knowledge base surrounding the nature of neuropsychological issues their patients present with, and how to understand and address these in their professional roles.
• Taking the lead on delivering Level 1 and Level 2 psychological skills training to Trust and external staff with the aim of providing each of these twice per year.
• Taking the lead in providing psychological support to business unit staff working in specialist rehabilitation via reflective practice or other activities alongside other Departmental staff.
• Accepting requests (where logistically possible for the Department) from the University of Leicester or Trent clinical psychology training courses to have trainees on specialist placement and providing the required supervision.
• Involvement in operational and strategic discussions about neuropsychological services as agreed with/ delegated by the Head of Department, including those involving wider service provision outside the Trust.
