University Hospitals Sussex is one of the biggest acute Trusts in the UK and this role as Director of Patient Safety & Learning is an integral part of the newly merged Trust Executive team reporting to the Chief Nurse. The role will work as part of the senior leadership team, with internal accountability and autonomy to lead, drive and coordinate programmes on patient safety and learning for the organisation whilst acting as a role model for compassionate and inclusive leadership.

We’re looking for an inspiring leader who is passionate about delivering and leading the ‘blue print for action’ and patient safety strategy across a large multi-site trust.

The primary responsibilities of the role will be to promote the ‘Safety 2 methodology’ whilst also developing the next stage patient safety and learning strategy across the trust.  Alongside leading and role modelling patient safety, you’ll need a commitment to learning, candour and an open culture of patient safety, learning innovation and quality improvement. You will also be an expert in the field of patient safety and vitally have a commitment to working with patients, their family and staff when harm has occurred.

This is an exciting opportunity for a credible clinician in the field of patent safety and learning who can demonstrate extensive and detailed knowledge in this field. The successful candidate will need excellent communication and influencing skills in order to identify and mobilise available resources and expertise across health and social care systems to deliver the Trust priorities on patient safety and learning.
