This is a unique, CV-changing opportunity to lead the delivery of a completely new UK model for providing Orthopaedic surgical services. There’s huge potential here – to reshape the patient experience and make an extensive dent in NHS waiting lists. Prove the model works successfully at our first clinic, in Bristol, and you could be instrumental in rolling it out across the UK.

The story so far

OSC is a new business aiming to revolutionise the delivery of orthopaedic surgical services in the UK. This is an area that’s ripe for innovation. There are more than 4.5million patients on the NHS orthopaedic elective surgery waiting list. Growing obesity and the ageing population means that number is growing fast, particularly for joint replacements.

Supported by an experienced commercial and investor team, our model is consultant-led – we already have a handful of talented consultants on board and we’re in talks with many more. Driven by technological and medical advances, OSC’s aim is to deliver a hugely efficient patient pathway, with shorter stays, reduced risks and better outcomes. As well as benefiting patients, it will also mean lower costs for insurers and reduced pressure on NHS trusts.

Where you fit in

We know the model works in the US. We’ve secured funding and identified a suitable first site in Bristol and we’re working on the design solution. That’s where you come in. You’ll call on prior success in delivering healthcare-related services to manage the design, construction and implementation of the Bristol day clinic.

Then, as the centre begins to take shape, you’ll switch focus to planning for successful operational service delivery. That begins with developing the patient pathway (with the CEO and senior management team) and putting in place effective systems, processes and performance management arrangements. You’ll cultivate strong relationships with NHS Trusts and insurance companies to secure the patient flow. You’ll also direct the recruitment process and manage relationships with suppliers, including technology partners.

Finally, once the doors are open, you’ll oversee all the functions of the business: leading and inspiring the team to realise the clinic’s potential and deliver a high-quality, innovative service – one the that keeps pace with patients’ demands, meets CQC and regulatory requirements and hits our financial targets.

What you can add

You’ve worked at a senior – maybe board – level delivering patient-focused healthcare services in partnership with other organisations (NHS trusts, insurance companies, health sector suppliers). You understand the regulation in the field and how to implement operation procedures and document medical processes.

As a leader, you’re both a strategic planner and a motivational manager – someone who can set a clear direction, prioritise critical issues and inspire others to deliver key organisational goals. Your colleagues would recognise you as someone with strong commercial and financial acumen, good judgement and the ability to influence, persuade and negotiate at all levels.
