An exciting opportunity has arisen within a large NHS organisation for a capable Operational Business Manager to coordinate the on-going work of the speciality area using strategic, business, and operational skills to ensure the service meets the required performance standards.

The post will be working in the North West for 3 months, at a Band 8b.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Provide business and managerial support to the Clinical Leads and Matrons, to ensure that the activity, quality, safety, and financial objectives of the services are successfully delivered;
  • Responsible for ensuring that patients receive treatment within contractually agreed waiting times for the service;
  • Develop good working relationships with other Divisions and teams within the same Division to ensure constructive, collaborative working with colleagues at all times;
  • Deputise for the Deputy Divisional Director;
  • Ensure that the operational area delivers nationally and locally contractually determined standards of access to healthcare on a consistent basis;
  • Respond to information provided taking appropriate action to immediately rectify and address any deficiency in capacity;
  • Interpret policies and initiate the appropriate action within the relevant services;
  • Take accountability to manage allocated budgets for several services;
  • Ensure the efficient use of resources along with the provision of value for money services, take early action to contain overspending budgets and develop plans to return to financial balance;
  • Identify cost improvements on an on-going basis to ensure that services are managed within their allocated budget;
  • Attend and make a positive contribution at the Speciality and Divisional Governance meetings;
  • Co-ordinate the investigation of complaints within the speciality to the agreed timescale, and take appropriate managerial action to address poor standards, identify learning outcomes and actions;
  • Develop a sound understanding of the market within which the services operate, including an understanding of commissioner requirements both present and future;
  • Line-manage several departments, including sickness absence management, disciplinary and grievance management, and overall responsibility for the area of work;
  • Responsible for the recruitment and selection of staff and advise on appropriate manpower needs and skill mix, through effective and robust workforce planning;
  • Monitor the performance of staff, addressing any weaknesses in performance, and areas of concern, through rigorous processes supported by applying the organisation’s HR policies;
  • Ensure the provision of training and learning and development opportunities exist.
A successful candidate will have:
  • Evidence of managing multi-disciplinary staff, including training needs, CPD, appraisals, sickness and absence, disciplinary matters;
  • Operational/Commercial experience within the NHS.
