Description:

An exciting opportunity has arisen within a large NHS organisation for a motivated Divisional General Manager - Medicine/ ED, to lead and manage numerous clinical specialties, enabling the organisation to become a recognised centre of clinical excellence.

The post will be working in the East of England for 3 months, at Band 8c.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the division, ensuring that operational delivery contributes to high quality patient care, enabling the organisation to achieve its performance & quality objectives;
  • Oversee all aspects of service provision including planned & unplanned care;
  • Working closely with the Divisional Director & Divisional Head of Nursing, ensure the highest standards of clinical care are delivered & that financial, performance & strategic targets & objectives are met in line with national & local strategic priorities;
  • Provide high-level operational and strategic business planning and leadership to ensure that the Division provides high quality patient care and achieves its performance objectives;
  • Accountable for the operational performance and strategic development of the clinical business units within the Division;
  • Oversee the delivery of high-quality patient care, clinical governance, patient safety, clinical quality, and delivery of Cost Improvement Programmes (CIPs);
  • Work alongside the Chief Operating Officer, and be accountable for setting and maintaining an annual capacity plan for the Division in line with the key corporate/Divisional objectives contained within the organisation’s annual business plan;
  • Jointly responsible with other Divisional Directors and Executive Team for driving forward corporate and cross-cutting programmes of work and service direction;
  • Work closely with the Executive Directors to shape and implement the corporate objectives;
  • Ensure strategic alignment across the organisation and particularly across the Divisions;
  • Have an external focus to facilitate greater working across the Healthcare Community e.g., with CCGs, and other provider organisations;
  • Drive through the delivery of ambitious targets to continually improve performance within the Division;
  • Introduce new and innovative business management strategies to maximise the organisational efficiency, income, and effectiveness of the Division;
  • Promote a culture of lifelong learning.
A successful candidate will have:
  • Extensive knowledge of the NHS in the acute sector with up-to-date knowledge of operational/clinical services;
  • Significant experience within the NHS, or other Healthcare environment at senior manager level;
  • Prior experience of strategic planning and budgetary control for group of complex operational/ clinical specialities;
  • Experience of leading and delivering significant programmes of change within healthcare setting;
  • The ability to be an effective leader with proven delivery experience in a fast-paced environment;
  • Strong IT skills to manage and report on complex performance management information.
