Chief Operating Officer

Job Ref:                     241-518CD-21

Salary:                        Six figure in line with NHS Improvement salary benchmarking

Job type:                    Permanent

Hours of work:          Whole time – minimum commitment of 37 ½ hours per week

At Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, we are a major provider of hospital and community health services in the North West of Greater Manchester.  We deliver acute services from the Royal Bolton Hospital and provide community services from a range of locations across Bolton. Rated by our regulator the Care Quality Commission as ‘Good’ and ‘Outstanding’ for the ‘well led’ domain.

We are seeking applications for the position of Chief Operating Officer to replace our current post holder who will be retiring at the end of 2021. This is a vital role with responsibility for the strategic leadership and management of all clinical operations; and the development of sustainable, high performing services to deliver both local and national standards. This position plays a key role in our plans as we seek to collaborate more broadly across our health and care economy with other health and social care, and third-sector partners as our Integrated Care Partnership continues to develop in supporting neighborhood delivery of services. As Chief Operating Officer you will play a central leadership role in relation to this work.

We are looking to appoint an experienced corporate professional with Board level operational experience who can help us  continue our journey of service and patient care improvements.  You will possess a demonstrable track record of leading services and staff to provide world class clinical services, and developing innovative ways of working across professions and boundaries. You will be joining a well-established and high performing Executive Team, and will report to our Chief Executive, Fiona Noden.

We know we can provide you with a great place to work, alongside fantastic teams who are all pulling together to give the people of Bolton the very best care possible. We have a unique family feel here in the Trust and this has been recently evidenced by our staff telling us, through the NHS Staff Survey, that we are the best place to work in Greater Manchester. We are so proud of this and it is so wonderful that our staff feel this way, especially in the midst of one of the biggest challenges we have ever faced.

Our response to COVID-19 continues and we are incredibly proud of the way our staff have risen to the challenge at such a difficult time. This hasn’t stopped us from moving forward with our recovery plans to ensure that our patients, who have been waiting for services, get the care they deserve as quickly as possible.

This is a pivotal moment for the Trust as we have recently outlined our ambitious plans for a new hospital alongside our recent significant investment in our estate, services, and IT.

So, if you are someone with the skills and abilities, and drive and courage to develop our services for the benefit of our patients, and have the inclusive leadership style to develop our people and teams, then our organisation is the place for you.

Informal discussions regarding the role are welcomed and should be directed to Fiona Noden, Chief Executive Officer, email: fiona.noden@boltonft.nhs.uk or telephone 01204 390808.
