Health Research Authority

Deputy Director of Finance - £65,663 - £75,873 per annum

Location: London, Manchester, Bristol, Nottingham, Newcastle or home-based – with some nationwide travel

At the Health Research Authority (HRA), we protect and promote the interests of patients and the public in all aspects of health and social care research, working across the system to promote good research practice, streamline governance and to provide UK-wide research review, coordinated across different regulators. We aim, with our partners, to make the UK a great place to do research, to build confidence and participation and so improve the nation’s health.

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive & Director of Finance, we are looking for a strategically aware and engaging Deputy Director of Finance, responsible for strategic financial planning, financial accounting, business partnering services, business intelligence and business case development support.

This important role works closely with Executive Committee advising on financial implications of strategic and operational decisions as well as influencing the development of proposals, projects and organisation-wide programmes that shape the future strategic direction of the HRA. This is a diverse role, where no two days will be the same. From developing and presenting committee reports, to hands-on people management, to advising peers on the public value of programmes, your excellent communication skills, technical expertise and collaborative leadership style will be essential to enable innovation within a strong financial control environment.

We are looking for a CCAB qualified individual with passion, drive and excellent people skills. You must be able to demonstrate an affinity for numbers and the ability to interpret them for others. Good technical knowledge and a commitment to continuous improvement are also key, as well as relevant experience in a senior management role within the NHS, public or third sectors. In addition, you should have a great track record of leading people and delivering complex activities to tight deadlines as well as a flexible approach to work both strategically and operationally.

Company

Allen Lane is a specialist consultancy focusing on the NHS and supporting the sector on interim and permanent recruitment across Finance, HR, IT, Procurement, Commissioning and Project Management.

Allen Lane was established in 2004, after the founders having experienced successful careers in a large multinational consultancy. Their approach in setting up a smaller, more specialised business was to establish honest relationships through sound judgement and exceptional customer service, which still continues to this day.  Today every member of the Allen Lane team shares this approach, founded on transparency, flexibility and long term objectives, and we all view recruitment as a career and not as a job.

We are an approved supplier on the CCS non medical non clinical framework and work closely with our clients in the healthcare sector to understand their business, the challenges they face and to introduce them to the right people to help them overcome those challenges.  Over the past 17 years our influence and networks within the sector have developed considerably, but despite our growth in reputation and turnover, we continue to pride ourselves in offering the special kind of service you would expect from a niche “owner run” business.
