Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust

Deputy Chief Executive

Competitive

Location: Bath

This role represents a significant opportunity to boost the capacity of our Executive Team.  As Deputy Chief Executive, as an integral part of the Executive Team, reporting to the Chief Executive and working closely with the Board and Extended Executive Team, you will support us to achieve our aspiration of ‘Outstanding AWP’.

Like most of the NHS, AWP is facing growing demand and acuity across its services, workforce challenges, continuing pressures on finances and a rapidly evolving stakeholder environment. Recognising the need to create additional capacity in our Executive Team to respond to these challenges, the Deputy Chief Executive will have a wide-ranging and flexible set of responsibilities, as agreed with the Chief Executive and Executive Team on a rolling six monthly basis.  This is in the context of our strategic vision of ‘Outstanding AWP’, which aims to deliver outstanding care, delivered by outstanding people, sustainable services, and delivered in partnership with patients, carers and system partners.

To succeed in this fascinating role you will be adaptable, flexible and able to grasp quickly the essence of a challenge, to generate appropriate solutions and build support for an agreed way forward.  This will require an effective, compassionate and inclusive leader who can motivate and empower people to embrace improvement. You will bring your excellent influencing skills, political acumen, drive for results and ability to work effectively with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders to the role. Ideally, your experience of leading at Executive level in the NHS will help you to strengthen our team, and you will bring your intellectual rigour, and ability to analyse complex issues to Executive Team discussions. You will need to be able to think and plan strategically and exercise sound judgment in the face of conflicting pressures, as well as ensure that the organisation mobilises to ensure delivery of agreed objectives.

At AWP we warmly welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are particularly keen to receive applications from people from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, those with disabilities and from the LGBTQ+ community. We want people to bring their unique blend of experiences, backgrounds, perspectives and knowledge to AWP, since we recognise that diversity makes us stronger.
