A large healthcare organisation is looking to appoint an experienced Environmental & Sustainability Manager for a period of 6 months. This is a new role within the Trust Estates Structure. 

Main Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for development and ownership of the Trust’s energy, waste and environmental management programme. The post holder will strive to improve the Trust’s energy performance and meet local and national targets whilst ensuring the Trust operates within a defined energy budget;
  • Take lead role in ensuring the Trust meets its statutory obligations in relation to energy, waste, environmental targets and government/ NHS initiatives;
  • Develop the Trusts Green Plan in line with NHS SDU net zero target by 2045;
  • Identify grants and funding for the development of innovative solutions to achieving energy savings
  • The post holder will provide technical interpretation from internal and external sources and implement energy saving technology where practicable;
  • The post holder will set and manage environmental goals, sustainable management plans, energy saving initiatives and transport plans;
  • Develop the Trusts green plan, policies and initiatives for energy management, carbon management and waste;
  • Will be expected to liaise with a variety of Trust staff, external contractors and other organisations for the provision of specialist sustainability and carbon reduction knowledge, to ensure effective management, monitoring and delivery of training and championing sustainability throughout the Trust;
  • Produce regular reports to the Trust Board following analysis of highly complex information to assist in securing funding for the implementation of energy saving projects.
A successful candidate will have:
  • Hold a thorough and demonstratable understanding of the NHS Green Plan in line with NHS SDU net zero target by 2045;
  • Significant knowledge of sustainability, including recycling, waste management and carbon reduction, in depth knowledge and proven ability in managing NHS (or equivalent) Environmental Projects;
  • Member of relevant professional institute/or able to demonstrate experience and knowledge to an equivalent standard;
  • Able to demonstrate technical understanding of a range of services provided by the Trust, including waste management, energy management, carbon reduction, transport and procurement.
