A large healthcare organisation is looking to appoint a senior commissioning professional, this person will hold experience across Urgent and Emergency Care pathways. 

Main Responsibilities:
  • A professional manager and leader, accountable for the direct delivery of a clinical technical service, to provide a modern and efficient Medical Equipment Management Service (MEMS) function to the Trust, complying with statutory regulations, Trust Policies, Care Quality Commission (CQC), Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), National Patient Safety Agency (NatPSA) and current best practices;
  • MEMS is primarily concerned with providing service, calibration and repair of a range of medical diagnostic and therapeutic equipment. The clinical equipment covered by MEMS incorporates components of electrical, mechanical, software and gases;
  • The successful appointee will be a leader that ensures the service is efficient, cost effective and showing continuously reviewed and improved management strategies and service delivery;
  • Appointed Medical Device Safety Officer for the Trust to manage and support medical devices Incident reporting and dissemination of safety communications;
  • Manage requests from the Patient Safety Domain in NHS England and act as senior point of contact for manufacturers on Field Safety Notices;
  • Ensure active membership of national medical devices safety network and provide regular feedback as working member to trust committees on the risks and planned actions of medical devices. Assist in the development and review of medical devices Policies and procedures, analyse incident and audit information regarding medical device risks and coordinate best practices for medical devices safety;
  • Support the evidence-based standardisation of medical equipment procurement for optimal service delivery, patient safety and cost-effectiveness. Coordinate and inform dialogue between device users and technical support services in achieving these aims;
  • Support Operational Estates and Medical Devices Committee in the risk management and continual improvement of medical device practices and safety;
  • Bring to the attention of the group any issues relating to the unsafe and inappropriate use of medical devices; to provide expert support to the management of safety actions and the investigation of untoward incidents involving medical equipment, particularly where these relate to fault issues. Be actively involved in the reliable dissemination of investigation outcomes to ensure that lessons are learnt and acted upon.
A successful candidate will have:
  • Registered with The Register of Clinical Technologists or intention to be;
  • Previous management/leadership of a team or service within the medical device sector in a health care setting;
  • Previous collaboration with clinical and finance teams to provide excellent support of business cases and capital replacement plans.
