An exciting opportunity has arisen, supporting a large NHS organisation as a Deputy Chief Nurse and Workforce Development.

The post will be based in the North West, on an interim basis for 5 months, working at a Band 8d.

The post holder will develop strategy, policies and operational procedures for the organisation’s quality assurance and improvement processes, along with developing and monitoring quality standards within contracts.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Drive improvements in quality, safety, and effectiveness in the services that the organisation commissions;
  • Play a key role in supporting quality in GP member practices;
  • Lead numerous key nursing, quality and patient safety/ experience projects and programmes as required by the Executive Director of Quality, Patient Experience & Safeguarding, ensuring these are delivered within required timescales and that key objectives are met;
  • Provide leadership for nursing, quality, and patient safety/ experience functions;
  • Support the Executive Director of Quality, Patient Experience & Safeguarding in assuring and ensuring delivery of high quality, safe clinical care in all commissioned services;
  • Lead the development & monitoring of quality standards (including CQUINs) within all provider contracts;
  • Head up the development of patient experience and outcome measures;
  • Supervise a team responsible for quality and patient experience;
  • Work as a strategic nurse leader alongside a range of partners to develop the nursing workforce;
  • Provide leadership advice for other non-medical professional roles;
  • Deputise for the role of the Caldicott Guardian;
  • Act as the nominated Deputy for the Executive Director of Quality, Patient Experience & Safeguarding, including regular attendance at board and executive meetings as required, management of the directorate budget, professional and line management of other members of the Quality and Patient Experience directorate;
  • Deliver the organisation’s strategy, directorate, and personal objectives;
  • Ensure the organisation is at the forefront of good/best practice through engagement with local and national leaders in quality and nursing;
  • Make certain that information and professional changes regarding nursing and key quality issues are incorporated into primary care and all commissioned services;
  • Provide professional advice & support to drive financial recovery & delivery of improvement programmes.
A successful candidate will have:
  • Qualified nurse with current NMC registration;
  • Demonstratable experience of working within a CCG at a senior nursing level;
  • Educated to master’s level or equivalent experience of working at a senior level in specialist area;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience at senior management level in a nurse leadership role or related area;
  • Proven track record of strategic planning with NHS and partner organisations;
  • Experience of collecting, analysing, and reporting data & other information at Board Committee level;
  • The ability to negotiate with senior stakeholders on difficult and controversial issues;
  • Significant experience of presenting complex and sensitive information to large and influential groups.
