An exciting opportunity has arisen, supporting a large Healthcare organisation as a Matron – Surgery.

The post will be working on an interim basis, for six months initially, based on the South East Coast.

The post holder will deliver the organisation’s clinical strategy to deliver exceptional patient care in line with the vision and strategy.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the strategic clinical development, in conjunction with Sisters, Matron, CNM, Chief Nurse and consultants;
  • Responsible for the delivery of excellent patient and visitor care, ensuring consistently high standards of patient experience, interaction and communication and maintain high quality clinical care;
  • Ensure that patient experience and well - being remain at the heart of the business;
  • Contribute to the budget planning and management process;
  • Have joint 24-hour responsibility for the ward and manage the day-to-day delivery of services, including bed allocation;
  • Lead and develop the ward staff to enable the delivery of excellence in clinical care;
  • Review the allocation of staff to the in-patient wards and related areas on a daily basis, adjusting the workforce to reflect activity and patient need in conjunction with the senior nursing team;
  • Work with all staff to ensure Early Warning scores are captured and acted on promptly;
  • In conjunction with the CNM, Matron, lead the clinical staff in the management of the day-to-day revenue recapture and cost controls;
  • Act as the Patient Champion, visit patients daily, be available to patients and their guests to handle queries and concerns;
  • To support CNM & Matron with Safeguarding, MCA & DOLS responsibilities;
  • Ensure appropriate systems are in place for monitoring and reporting on clinical, professional, and regulatory compliance, including NICE and NCEPOD compliance;
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures/protocols in relation to the ward activity in line with national guidance, and contribute to organisation wide polices/procedure where appropriate;
  • Link with external groups e.g., critical care network to ensure Enhanced care facilities are effective and robust against National standards;
  • Ensure effective and appropriate management of complaints, promoting a culture where the service learns from complaints to improve care and minimise future complaints, in accordance with the organisation’s policies and procedures.
A successful candidate will have:
  • A qualified nurse, with an NMC registration;
  • Minimum of 5 years post-registration clinical experience in the relevant specialty;
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and its application;
  • Proven ability to diffuse and solve challenging incidents;
  • An energetic approach, whilst also achievement focused and willing to work hard under pressure.
