An exciting opportunity has arisen, supporting a large NHS organisation as an interim Head of Incident Management.

The post is working in the North West, initially for a period of 3 months, at a Band 8a. The post will be working inside IR35 (through an umbrella solution).

The post holder will provide a high-quality patient safety incident management service across the organisation.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement the Patient Safety Incident Management Strategy and ensure opportunities for learning from patient safety incidents are maximised;
  • Support staff in facilitating robust incident and risk management principles and provide guidance in all areas of clinical safety and incident management;
  • Manage a range of quality improvement projects to maintain a robust and current patient safety incident process and profile;
  • Provide high levels of clinical leadership and inspire others to maintain a high standard of work and clinical safety;
  • Support the Risk Manager in the delivery of the Risk Management Strategy and provide cover for sickness and absence;
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the organisation’s Patient Safety Incident Reporting, Investigation and Learning Strategies;
  • Interpret national guidance into local context & policy development for organisational use;
  • Develop & manage a system for reporting patient safety incident and standards of investigation;
  • Implement and manage a system for the identification of serious incidents and report them to the appropriate external bodies and senior members of staff within the organisation, in accordance with national guidance and organisational procedures;
  • Produce guidance and policies to support the implementation and management of Patient Safety Incident management;
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive training programmes in relation to Patient Safety Incident investigation incorporating Root Cause Analysis, Human Factors and Systems thinking;
  • Liaise directly with Executive Director (or nominated deputies) to support appropriate decision making with regards to Serious Incident declaration and submission of investigation reports to the commissioners.
A successful candidate will have:
  • A qualified health care professional, with significant experience of working in the NHS;
  • Experience of advising and liaising with staff at all levels, preferably in the NHS;
  • Clear understanding of the issues prevailing around risk management;
  • At least 3 years’ experience of working in a senior management role;
  • Relevant clinical governance/clinical risk qualification or equivalent experience.
