Are you committed to helping us regulate health and social care within England?

We are looking for individuals who are caring, demonstrate integrity, work well as part of a team and always strive for excellence in everything they do. Help us make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care and encourage care services to improve.

Let us tell you a little bit about the role....

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Inspector (lead for Mental Health) within the Hospitals Inspection directorate, you will be accountable for ensuring that CQC fulfils its statutory duties in relation to the Mental Health Act, through MHA monitoring activity, investigation of patient complaints and concerns and the delivery of an efficient and effective second opinion appointed doctor (SOAD) service. You'll work closely with colleagues in policy and across CQC to ensure the Mental Health Act annual report to parliament is delivered and that close links are developed and maintained that help inform and deliver our regulatory responsibilities across health and social care at location, provider and system levels.

In this role, you'll work as a member of the Hospitals senior team to further develop and refine CQC’s approach to discharging its duties under the Mental Health Act. The successful candidate will agree the programme of MHA monitoring activity to fulfil CQC’s duties under the MHA; and that benefits its regulatory approach by contributing to CQC’s work as a regulator of health and care services. You will be personally responsible for leading and project managing individual complex inspections or themed programmes of work as required by the role. You'll be joining the senior team at an important and exciting time of Mental Health Act reform and the implementation of our new strategy.

What we're looking for from you...

You'll have expertise and a working knowledge of the Mental Health Act as well as an understanding of the responsibilities and duties of the CQC with regards to the Act; including the role of SOADs.  You will be a proficient and trusted leader with experience in a senior leadership role in a large and complex organisation and of leading teams to execute strategy.

We are looking for an individual with a passion for tackling inequalities and driving improvement. You'll need excellent people management skills and the ability to work through peers to deliver a programme of activity.

Your ability to build strong working relationships with stakeholders internally and externally of all seniorities alongside your ability to lead and manage performance by setting clear direction, providing feedback and coaching is crucial for success in this role.
