This is an exciting opportunity for a truly inspirational and compassionate midwifery leader to develop an outstanding midwifery and nursing service. A leader who will enhance and challenge traditional models of care and deliver new transformational ways of working, improving patient experience, quality and outcomes.

As Director of Midwifery, you will be responsible for the professional, strategic and clinical leadership of the midwifery, gynaecology and neonatal workforce across NHS Lothian. Professionally accountable to the Executive Director of Nursing Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals, your role will involve working in partnership with colleagues across Lothian local maternity and adult acute systems, mental health and public health, as well as some children’s and family’s services.

You will support and drive improvements across Women’s services and be a strong maternity advocate for women, babies, service users and their families. You will be an experienced, confident, energetic and highly motivated senior midwife with a proven track record of delivery.

In addition, you will be able to demonstrate values-based leadership and influencing skills, effective communication, and have the confidence to constructively challenge across all staff groups, and to facilitate an open culture.

We welcome applications from a diverse cross section of midwifery professionals who have extensive experience in delivering improvement and leading across complex organisations.

The role has a focus on the strategic delivery of high standards of midwifery and nursing services across the two sites and community settings. The role involves working in partnership with a broad variety of stakeholders, organisations, national organisations with the aim of taking forward national polices for women, service users and families and developing a long-term strategic vision.

As part of the executive Nurse Director’s senior team, you will also take some corporate responsibility as part of your portfolio. This as an ideal opportunity for a candidate who is keen to progress their career to executive level and we will support you through leadership development.
