CONSULTANT CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Clinical Psychologist to join a thriving clinical department at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust. The post holder will be responsible for leading and developing specialist services to adult and paediatric patients seen in the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology. The clinical areas covered by this post are Major Trauma, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Orthopaedics and the Emergency Department.  These are well established services where psychology input is highly valued and an integral part of the clinical pathways, including the world-leading hand-transplant service. The current team consists of two Principal Clinical Psychologists, three Senior Clinical Psychologists, one Clinical Psychologist and an Assistant Psychologist. The post holder will lead and line manage the team, and will also be expected to participate in the Department’s Clinical Governance activities and Operational Management Group. Clinically, the post will involve assessment and therapeutic work with patients across the lifespan as inpatients and outpatients. It will be primarily based at Leeds General Infirmary although will involve some cross site working and there are options for some home working. There will be opportunities for research, teaching and delivering specialist supervision. Previous experience of working in these clinical specialities and in across the lifespan is essential. Training and experience of using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy is desirable.

The Department of Clinical and Health Psychology (DCHP) is academically ambitious with strong links to the regional clinical training programme and schools of psychology, medicine and healthcare at the University of Leeds. We encourage ring-fenced academic time in our job plans and there are opportunities for research, service-evaluation, audit, teaching and delivering supervision.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust provides a range of high profile and expert clinical services which include major trauma, neurorehabilitation, neurosciences, pain, renal, cardiac, cystic fibrosis, HIV and cancer centres. It is an ambitious trust with core values of empowerment, fairness, collaboration, accountability and patient-centred care. It is in this context that the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology has flourished over the past decade. We have several special interest groups that are accessible for clinicians wanting to develop therapeutic skills in areas such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Analytical Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy, as well as a focus on regular supervision.  The department is well respected within the Trust and during the coronavirus pandemic our significant contribution to support staff has been recognised and valued by the Executive Team here at LTHT. We have embraced new ways of working during the pandemic and this role is likely to continue, providing video consultations and some home working. We are a friendly bunch with a good team spirit who value balancing our work and home life. We encourage flexible, agile working which can, for example, include compression of working hours.  The Trust has a range of really excellent staff benefits and salary sacrifice schemes (including car leasing and cycle-to-work schemes) and on-site facilities (e.g., nurseries and gyms).
