Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust
Chief Medical Officer

Liverpool – competitive salary

Alder Hey is one of Europe’s largest and busiest children’s hospitals, providing more than 60 paediatric specialties as well as community healthcare for a catchment population of 7.6 million and treating over 300,000 children each year.  Its work includes ground-breaking collaborations with academia and industry to drive medical research, technological innovation and medical education.  Its vision encompasses the completion of a unique children’s health campus, to include community and mental health services.

Alder Hey is looking for a new Chief Medical Officer to play a major role in the delivery of this vision to improve the life chances of future generations as part of its unitary Board. The role of Chief Medical Officer spans key areas which are critical for the Trust’s continued success: you will lead the development of our clinical strategy and, working closely with our Chief Nursing Officer, you will lead the development of our quality and safety strategy; you will provide professional leadership to our medical workforce; working with our higher education partners you will enhance and encourage innovation and research activity across Liverpool in support of Alder Hey’s vision; in addition you will develop our education and training strategies. The CMO will play a significant role in advocating for children and young people’s services across the region, and nationally, and will be expected to drive this agenda forward within the newly formed health system.

This role represents an exceptional opportunity to apply your clinical leadership skills at executive director level in one of the country’s most iconic NHS trusts.  We are seeking an experienced medical leader, someone who can command the respect of fellow clinicians, represent the organisation in a strong and credible manner externally and bring sound judgment to the Board.  It is a role that is suitable for individuals from many specialties including but not limited to paediatrics.  It will require the ability to grasp operational detail at the same time as thinking strategically; you will need to deal with high levels of complexity, establishing and developing external partnerships that help realise the benefits of our superb state of the art working environment.

If the prospect of joining our executive team at this exciting time appeals to you then please click Apply and in the first instance please contact David Heaton, Michelle Shirley or Robin Staveley, of GatenbySanderson on 0113 205 6094 or via email david.heaton@gatenbysanderson.com

Closing date for applications: Friday 17th December; preliminary interviews w/c 3rd & 10th January; final interviews w/c 24th January 2022.
