We are firmly committed to being the best possible provider of healthcare and place to work in the NHS and we have an exciting opportunity to recruit a new Chief Nurse.
UHL is a Trust with regional and national reach. It has an operating turnover in excess of £1.2 billion and it provides a wide range of general and specialist services across a diverse range of communities in Leicester, Leicestershire, Rutland and beyond. We already have a very strong research programme at UHL and the Chief Nurse will be key ally in strengthening nurse, midwifery and AHP led research here. Whilst we are a large Trust, I am keen we ensure all of our communities, patients and colleagues receive a personal and positive experience when they interact with the Trust.
I am looking for a new Chief Nurse who can evidence how they deliver and what they deliver. For me, the former will be the most important as I am keen we further strengthen the culture at UHL. We will work together to make sure UHL has one of the best cultures in the NHS because an inclusive culture delivers safe care. We will measure our culture by listening to the lived experiences of all colleagues as well as monitoring the NHS Staff Survey, Freedom to Speak Up, WRES and WDES data. I believe how colleagues are treated significantly influences care provision and organisational performance and the new Chief Nurse must have qualities that are in line with those of the Trust. The ability to evidence inclusion, support, fairness and highly visible leadership are essential for a successful application. It is essential you are able to build effective relationships with all of your colleagues, in particular Andrew Furlong (Medical Director) and Jon Melbourne (Chief Operating Officer and who joins us on 31 January 2022).
Now is an exciting time to join UHL. We have a once in a generation chance to transform our hospitals through our national capital allocation. The ambitious and wide-ranging transformation programme will ensure the teams can deliver the highest quality services and will significantly improve outcomes and care for patients and the local communities. UHL is also part of the LLR Integrated Care System and we already have strong relationships with primary care, CCG, Leicestershire Partnership Trust, Local Authority and voluntary sector partners.
As the Chief Nurse, what will I offer you? I am confident you will be listened to and will feel fully included in decision making. You will have huge opportunities to make a difference and there will be unlimited opportunities for personal learning and growth. You will have my full support.
