About the role

As leader of the Finance Systems Team, the Finance Systems Manager is accountable for the development and maintenance of Unit4 ERP and Unit4 FP&A.

Their work is pivotal in providing people across Shelter with the financial information they need to take critical decisions about our strategy, while ensuring we have the robust controls in place to safeguard the charity’s resources.

They apply their technical and leadership expertise while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure Shelter’s finance systems enable the fight for home. 

Role specific responsibilities

  • Effective leadership of the five-strong and largely new Finance Systems Team, taking a coaching approach to line management wherever possible and ensuring the team delivers its outcomes.
  • Delivery of the long-term Finance Systems Strategic Plan, ensuring Shelter’s finance systems contribute to delivery of Shelter’s strategy.
  • Playing a key role in the project team for Project Clarity, an internal Finance-led piece of work which seeks to drive change through better financial data:
  • Leadership of the ‘Codebreak’ workstream as it moves from the testing phase into implementation (design will already be complete), restructuring project codes (a key analysis attribute) in Unit4.
  • Acting as key stakeholder and expert advisor for other workstreams, including improvements to staff cost data and cost allocation methodology.
  • Acting as key point of contact with relevant suppliers.
  • Leadership of a tender for a new Unit4 support partner.
  • Management of the budget for the Finance Systems Team.
  • Playing an active role in:
  • The Finance Departmental Leadership Team, contributing to planning and performance monitoring for the Finance Department as a whole;
  • The Finance Data Stewardship Group, responsible for robust governance of financial data.

Outcomes of the role

  • An engaged, motivated and effective Finance Systems Team who are supported to drive their own development.  
  • Finance systems which:
  • Deliver an excellent user experience for >1,300 end users;
  • Provide the data needed to take strategic decisions;
  • Enable controls, transactional processing and reporting which are robust and effective; and
  • Adapt to meet the charity’s needs as they change. 
  • Confidence and skill of Shelter colleagues in using appropriate finance systems. 
  • (Common to all finance roles) a Finance Team that collaborates and communicates to deliver our mission and vision. 

About the team

This role leads the Finance Systems Team. We support and develop Shelter’s finance systems, Unit4 ERP and Unit4 FP&A, helping to make sure that everyone at Shelter can easily take important financial decisions and look after our resources.
