Hello and thank you for your interest in joining University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust
Deputy Chief Executive - University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust
Hospitals in Leicester have been pioneers in healthcare since 1771 and they continue to play a leading role in providing care to patients and communities. Our mission is to provide world class expertise and local care and we are firmly committed to being the best possible provider of healthcare and place to work in the NHS. We now have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Deputy Chief Executive.
I am looking for a Deputy Chief Executive who can evidence exactly how they have delivered at scale as well as what they have delivered. You and I will work with our colleagues to make sure UHL has one of the best cultures in the NHS because an inclusive culture delivers safe care. Our culture will be understood by listening to the lived experiences of all colleagues, as well as monitoring the NHS Staff Survey, Freedom to Speak Up, WRES and WDES data. I believe how colleagues are treated significantly influences care provision and the Deputy Chief Executive must have qualities that are in line with those of the Trust.
Whilst you will deputise for me, you will also have the portfolio of delivering our clinical reconfiguration strategy. UHL is one of the eight NHS New Hospital Programme Pathfinder Trusts providing UHL and LLR with a wonderful prospect to consolidate our services and to transform the way we provide health and care services. We recognise the world has changed and we have duty to change with it in order to improve health, wealth and wellbeing for our colleagues and the communities we serve.
UHL is a good provider of healthcare. We are a Trust with regional and national reach and have an operating turnover in excess of £1.2 billion and 17,000 colleagues. We already provide nationally and internationally-renowned specialist treatment and services in cardio-respiratory diseases, vascular, Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), cancer and renal disorders, amongst other services. We have a dedicated Children’s Hospital and we work closely with partners at the University of Leicester and De Montfort University. We are home to an NIHR Biomedical Research Centre which supports key research including lifestyle, diabetes, and cardio-respiratory diseases and we have been successfully designated as an NIHR Clinical Research Facility. We are also extremely proud of our Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre and our HOPE Unit is an instrumental factor in delivering clinical trials of new cancer treatments.
Like many trusts, we do have problems which have been exacerbated by Covid, but I am confident we are building a senior team which will fully unlock the potential of the 17,000 great people who already work at UHL. Whilst we are a large, complex Trust, we want to work with others to create a culture which consistently delivers the highest possible level of patient care.
As the Deputy Chief Executive, what will I offer you? This is a very senior role and I am confident you will be given the complete autonomy you want to deliver the changes this Trust needs to see. You will have unlimited opportunity to make a difference and you will have my full support.
We are working to the following timeline:
- Job goes live: Thursday 30 December 2021 – we are not using a recruitment firm because I believe the job and the Trust will “sell itself”. The process will be absolutely open, fair and transparent and I want to attract a large field of strong candidates.
- Job closes: Wednesday 19 January 2022
- All candidates contacted to confirm if they have made the shortlist: COP Thursday 20 January
- Interviews: W/C 31 January 2022.
All applications should be made in the form of an up to date CV and covering letter to Mandy Johnson - Executive Assistant to Chair & Chief Executive. email@example.com
