About us:

At Dorset HealthCare we’re on a mission to empower people to make the most of their lives through our outstanding, joined-up healthcare services. We’re a dynamic, forward-looking Trust, running 12 community hospitals, specialist inpatient facilities and a wide range of integrated community and mental health services for a population of almost 800,000 people.

We like to do things differently here – it’s one of the reasons the CQC rated us ‘outstanding’, and we were shortlisted by the HSJ for Mental Health Provider of the Year in 2019. It’s also why 95% of patients across our services say they have a good or very good experience of our services and 89% of staff feel they can really make a difference.

Our 7,000-strong workforce is at the heart of what we do and our success is a testament to our brilliant people. Working with us, you’ll challenge yourself, build a career, and teach us what we don’t know. And you’ll be working towards our vision to be better every day through excellence, compassion and expertise in all we do.

About the role:

We are at an exciting phase in our transformational digital journey with the development of a new ‘digital first’ approach and, as a clinical expert with a genuine interest in digitally enhanced care, we want you to be part of the clinical leadership team that shapes and implements our Trust’s IT strategy and vision, in our new Chief Nursing Information Officer role.

Our overall digital vision is to develop a unified, digitally mature infrastructure across our integrated health and care system, providing our nursing and AHP staff and patients with seamlessly interconnected digital tools that empower our workforce to deliver exceptional care, quality, and safety for all patients across our inpatient and community mental health settings in Dorset.

Being highly organised and collaborative, you’ll work closely with the Chief Information Officer (CIO), Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO), Senior IT Team and key stakeholders, forming a key part of our Digital Clinical Leadership team. Together you will drive forward the Digital Transformation, with your four areas of priority being:

  • Making Dorset HealthCare a ‘digital as usual’ organisation
  • Using technology to maximise efficiency
  • Empowering people to take more control of their own health by use of digital technology
  • Encouraging and fostering digital skills across our workforce

Acting as a clinical champion you identify, design and deliver digital solutions as an enabler for safe and effective care, including the contributions from stakeholder and clinical staff engagement, particularly nurses and AHPs.

You will pioneer new ways of working and promote the “art of the possible”, with your leadership skills enabling you to make the important strategic decisions that will drive measurable improvements in outcomes for patients and their experience of healthcare via the use of health information systems.

This is a full-time role with some flexibility over hours and location. The successful candidate will be expected to spend some time at Trust Headquarters in Poole to support the team, with opportunities to work from home or other locations as required.

If you would like a pre application conversation with the Executive Director of Nursing, Therapies & Quality, or to find out more about our generous relocation package, please contact Michelle McKirdy (Executive Assistant to the Executive Director of Nursing, Therapies & Quality) on 01202 277010 or via email to m.mckirdy@nhs.net

Closing date 7th February 2022
Interviews will be held on 16th and 17th February 2022

What working for us will provide:
