A large NHS Trust is seeking a Head of Research Operations within Clinical Trials to work with the Director of Research within the Trust to grow and develop the Trusts Trials Unit.

The post will be working in the South Coast on an interim basis for 3 months initially with a potential extension in place.

Main Responsibilities:
  • To work with the Director of Research & Innovation to build and shape the future of research and innovation within the Trust by progressing and implementing the Trust R&I strategy, growing PHT led research activity and developing the Trusts Technologies Trials Unit;
  • To manage and support the delivery performance standards for the Trust, including administration of performance management and monitoring, ensuring development of systems and processes to ensure the achievement of key national and financial targets, and local objectives within Research;
  • Lead the Research Office team to ensure the timely set up of all hosted and sponsored research studies, meeting national metrics and benchmarks;
  • In conjunction with the Director of Research and the senior management team, agree resource priorities and an accountability framework;
  • Development of training and workforce plans in order to support the business;
  • Lead and support system change programmes within the department applying the principles of service redesign, change management and project management principles.

A successful candidate will have:
  • PhD or equivalent relevant professional qualification;
  • Demonstrable management and leadership qualification/experience;
  • Excellent working knowledge of the UK clinical trials regulations; Information Governance and the Data Protection Act (1998), Mental Capacity Act, Human Tissue Act, GCP, Research Governance and ethical frameworks;
  • Experience of developing studies for Sponsor review and oversight;
  • Experience of working in the a clinical research environment;
  • Demonstrable experience of implementation of national health policies and operating framework standards e.g. referral to treatment, cancer targets stroke, A&E and key issues in the NHS e.g. best practice tariff, payment by results, patient choice and involvement.
