An exciting opportunity has arisen, supporting an NHS organisation as a Technical Operations Manager for Decontamination.

The post will be based in London, for an initial period of 3 months this may well extend as the client is looking to recruit to the role permanently. The role is Band 8a NHS agenda for change.

The post holder will be operationally and strategically responsible for the Decontamination Technical Services. This role will have responsibility for the management and development of the Decontamination Technical workforce providing professional and operational leadership to the teams under their remit.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Provide visible operational and strategic leadership to the management of Decontamination technical services and promote continual improvement, quality, and performance of the service;
  • Work collaboratively with the organisation and the organisation staff to ensure effective financial, quality and workforce that meets the needs of both current and future service developments;
  • Ensure that the team receive appropriate education and training opportunities which supports the service and the strategic aims of the organisation;
  • To represent the organisation at both internal and external meetings when required;
  • Ensure the service meets JAG accreditation requirements and coordinates the required submission;
  • Provide advice and guidance to the organisation and its staff in relation to the provision of Decontamination services in line with agreed contractual arrangements;
  • Lead on the development and review of operational policies, procedures and guidelines ensuring their implementation, review, and monitoring;
  • Provide training materials and programmes as required for the efficient delivery of the service to the organisation, this may include training for both the organisation and their employees;
  • Ensure all day to day (BAU) customer service requests are dealt with in line with the agreed SLA for the service;
  • Make certain any escalations or arising issues related to the service are dealt with and resolved promptly;
  • Provide monthly reports on usage and performance indicators for the organisation to review, and take action where required to address variance from the target/milestone;
  • Support the investigation of complaints/incidents/PALS enquiries and that any issues arising from the investigation are suitably addressed, and also used as an opportunity to improve and learn within the service;
  • Work collaboratively and in line with relevant professional registration guidelines within an agreed professional supervision arrangement;
  • Ensure training and development needs are identified through regular training needs analyses and that those needs are discussed and supported by HR.

A successful candidate will have:
  • Experience of Sterile Services/Decontamination within a healthcare setting, this can be NHS or private healthcare setting;
  • Educated to Degree level, or equivalent experience in decontamination science;
  • Substantial management experience of working in a busy clinical environment or in operations;
  • Proven experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team; also the ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Current knowledge of legislation, standards guidance and practices related to decontamination of medical devices;
  • IT literate and a good working knowledge of Windows applications such as Word and Excel;
  • The ability to identify and resolve complex problems;
  • The ability to make judgements involving complex facts or situations which require the analysis, interpretation, and comparison of a range of options.
