An exciting opportunity has arisen, supporting a large NHS organisation as a Head of Patient Safety.

The post will be working in the East of England on an interim basis for 6 months initially. The post will require on-site working, although happy to discuss some flexibility with remote working. The hourly rate will be: £41.13, working inside IR35 (through an umbrella solution).

The post holder will act as one of the named lead Patient Safety Specialists in the organisation, leading on or directly supporting patient safety improvement activities, embedding in all patient safety processes.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the delivery of the Quality Governance and Assurance, ensuring that standards are met and maintained to the agreed level throughout the service;
  • Work with the Associate Chief Nurse and Head of Legal & Clinical Effectiveness, and take day to day responsibility for key work-streams that support the delivery system;
  • Ensure the organisation can provide evidence and demonstrate that it complies with regulations;
  • Lead on all aspects of external inspections such as CQC, including (but not limited to) preparation, evidence collation, inspection preparation, reviewing reports, and preparing reports for the organisation Board and Board Sub-Committees;
  • Work in an effective matrix style as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective quality and safety initiatives and assurance systems in the organisation;
  • Responsible for identifying gaps in assurance that may affect the achievement of the required standards and ensuring action plans are developed and delivered on time with the responsible managers;
  • Lead on the management of Serious Incidents for the organisation, ensuring appropriate systems and policies are in place and adhered to;
  • Liaise with external stakeholders and relevant commissioners regarding all aspects of serious incidents;
  • Present reports within divisions, groups, and committees on a regular basis;
  • Identify and report risks to appropriate structures;
  • Provide robust inductions and train new direct line reports into the team;
  • Communicate highly sensitive or contentious information with tact, diplomacy and understanding to staff of all levels of seniority internal and external to the organisation.
A successful candidate will have:
  • Must have experience working with the NHS/ a healthcare setting;
  • A master’s degree, or equivalent qualification in relevant subject area;
  • Demonstrable knowledge of CQC standards and quality governance;
  • Expert knowledge of assurance and compliance and systems;
  • Sound risk management knowledge and experience;
  • Demonstrable effective engagement in delivering or monitoring CQC and NHSLA standards in a complex NHS organisation;
  • Successful Senior management experience in complex organisation;
  • Experience of using analytical information and robust evidence to inform decisions against a risk-based methodology.
