About us

At Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT) we provide physical and mental health care, learning disability and adult social care services across Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, Shropshire, and Telford & Wrekin. In addition, we provide services on a wider regional and national basis including perinatal, eating disorder and forensic services. We deliver out-of-area sexual health services, and our Inclusion service offers psychological and drug & alcohol services, in the community, and in prisons across the country. We are a truly integrated NHS organisation with a dedicated workforce of 9,500 staff, serving a population of 1.5 million, with an approximate turnover of £560m.

The last two years have been extraordinarily challenging for our workforce and population. But, with a strong leadership team in place and working together with our staff, Governors and partners in the newly forming Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent and Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Integrated Care Systems, we are focused on harnessing the opportunities that working in partnership will present to deliver care in a way which is consistent with our values of Putting people at the heart of what we do, Empowering people to improve care and wellbeing and Delivering better health, better care in partnership.

The Opportunity

As a key member of Trust Board (non-voting) you will lead and manage the Corporate Governance, Legal Services, Communications and Equality Diversity and Inclusion functions and teams.  You will be primarily responsible for establishing sound governance procedures that will ensure quality, efficiency, effectiveness, integrity and business focus for the Trust and as Company Secretary you will be responsible for ensuring that as an organisation the Trust is adequately prepared to comply with legislative and regulatory frameworks

Directly accountable to the Chief Executive and as principal advisor to the Chair, Chief Executive, Board of Directors and Council of Governors you will have a broad remit on all issues relating to matters of corporate governance, reputation, stakeholder engagement and strategic communications, equality, diversity and inclusion and legal matters; ensuring that the Trust’s corporate affairs are undertaken to the highest standards of probity and according to statutory and legislative requirements.

The Director will need to work in partnership with health and social care providers in the system, moving away from a traditional organisational focus to look at how to deliver high quality services that are cost effective across the whole systems.

You will contribute to the development of systems focused on quality and clinical performance by ensuring control process and risk management arrangements comply with governance and best practice requirements and contribute to continuous improvement of the quality of risk information. You will also act as the Trust lead and Single Point of Contact and Responsible Officer for the Trust’s preparation and response to the Government’s Covid-19 Public Inquiry.

We are seeking an exceptional individual who will role model the Trust’s values and behaviours ensuring the most positive culture exists to further develop and empower our teams to embed good governance practice. With significant corporate governance and affairs experience, either from the NHS or related sectors, you will be confident operating at senior levels in a complex, regulated environment.  With excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail, you will bring a positive influence to our Board whilst we focus on closer working and greater integration of health and care services, in order to provide the very best outcomes for our population.

We are passionate about creating an inclusive workplace that promotes and values diversity.  We know through experience that the different ideas, perspectives and backgrounds create a stronger and more creative work environment that delivers better patient outcomes. We value and promote diversity and are committed to equality of opportunity for all and appointments made on merit.
