We’re looking for a skilled and astute Director of Operational Finance to effectively oversee our financial controls and management. Looking after a revenue budget of £350m, you will lead high profile, strategic initiatives that support us to deliver outstanding care to the people of Dorset.

You’ll work strategically across the wider Dorset health and care system to ensure we direct resources flexibly and sustainably to the right services to meet local needs, in line with national drivers.

You'll also work alongside other corporate services to help deliver our exciting transformation programme which focusses on delivering the best quality services for people in Dorset.  Key initiatives within the organisation include:

  • Developing new buildings
  • Delivering cost improvement programmes
  • Designing and implementing digital services
  • Transforming clinical services

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, you will have responsibility for the Trust’s Operational Finance function. 

Key objectives for the role are:

  • Maintaining strong financial control
  • Developing the Trust’s financial plans
  • Providing high quality financial information
  • Supporting the Trust’s improvement in productivity
  • Ensuring the Trust’s finance team remains a great place to work

You will be working closely with the executive and wider senior leadership team and with our Dorset Integrated Care System colleagues, supporting the organisation achieve its short, medium and long term financial goals. 

Advise and support the Chief Finance Officer in the carrying out of their duties. Act on behalf of, and deputies for, the Chief Finance Officer as required.

Shape effective decision making within the Trust, providing expert, specialist financial support and advice to the Chief Finance Officer and other staff within the Trust.

Ensure appropriate structures and processes are in place for robust and reliable reporting of the Trusts current, forecast and projected financial position.

Meet regular and ad hoc reporting deadlines for reports to the Trust Board and Directors, returns to the ICS and NHSE, and end of year statutory accounts.

Manage the finance directorate ensuring the delivery of timely, high quality and effective services to the Trust and its stakeholders.

To foster a culture of continuous improvement both within and outside of the directorate.
