Starting salary circa £68,000

Location: Southwark, London

There has never been a more exciting - or challenging - time to be involved in local government. We are in a period of significant opportunity in how we shape the future of Londoners health and wellbeing.

London borough Leaders and Directly Elected Mayors have agreed new Shared Ambitions for London and Londoners. Wellbeing and the borough role in prevention are central to those Shared Ambitions. The opportunity ahead is to work with London boroughs and health partners across the Capital to make the most of the reforms in how we integrate the way we work with the NHS in order to change the way we respond to ill health and health inequalities and expand the ways we take action on community-based interventions, prevention and action to address the wider determinants of health

The task ahead is to deliver the Shared Ambitions through our work with boroughs regionally and sub-regionally through ICSs, as well as through supporting the development of borough-based partnerships and community/neighbourhood ways of working.

Requirements

Based in the vibrant health and social care team at London Councils, this role has day-to-day responsibility for managing one policy officer. However, you will also need to be comfortable and have experience influencing across networks to deliver the system changes, including within local government networks and across regional partnerships.

You will have excellent knowledge of the health and care integration policy agenda and relevant legislation, including the new and emerging partnership structures and the role of London local government in addressing the wider determinants of health. Preferable, you will have knowledge and/or experience of working in one or more relevant service areas, such as adult social care, public health, health services and children’s services.

Working with London Councils colleagues and boroughs leads, you will play a pivotal role in creating the systems and processes which ensure that borough are connected and working collaboratively to develop models of place partnership working, local government leadership across different ICSs are connected to share intelligence and emerging issues, knowledge of established and innovative models of place and neighbourhood collaboration and integration are shared system wide and London local government has a strong voice on place partnership.

You will work with senior officers and members in London local government, so it is important that you are politically aware with the ability to exercise judgement, discretion and confidentiality when dealing with politicians and officers at all levels and be proactive in identifying and taking action on opportunities and risks.

This role offers a position at the forefront of shaping the future of Londoners’ wellbeing and borough vital role in that.
