Northumberland County Council

Executive Director of Public Health, Inequalities & Stronger Communities (DPH)

Up to £150k

Location: Northumberland

Northumberland is famous for its stunning coastline and beautiful countryside, but it’s far more than this – it’s a place where people live, work, learn and play. The County Council is a driving force behind the county’s success, and prides itself on providing a range of superb services to our residents, businesses, and visitors.

Reporting to our newly appointed Chief Executive, this exciting and unique new post is a fantastic opportunity to lead, steer, develop and manage services relating to Public Health and Inequalities which will build healthier and stronger communities, as part of the Council’s key corporate and partnership priorities, within a council that works for everyone, to benefit the people of Northumberland.

In addition to Public Health, the role will have a broader remit, to be determined but likely to include, leisure, libraries, archives  and Northumberland Communities Together. The scope of the role once defined through our review programme will enable you to have a real impact on the health and wellbeing of all of our communities.

You’ll provide strong, visible, transformational and system leadership to drive improvements in the health and wellbeing of the residents of Northumberland, reducing inequalities in health outcomes, and working in collaboration, to protect local communities from threats to their health through infectious diseases, environmental and other public health hazards. You’ll also develop and implement innovative commissioning arrangements and service delivery across partners and the Local Authority to deliver improved health and wellbeing outcomes.

If you share our ambition and are excited by this unique opportunity to make a real impact on the lives of our residents, then we would like to hear from you. It’s important that you are a registered GMC, GDC or UK PHR public health specialist with significant senior experience in all areas of public health practice at Director level.
