Department for Work and Pensions
Head Clinician
Salary Band SCS1
Location: Leeds, London or Sheffield
The Department for Work and Pensions touches every citizen in the country at some time in their life. We are the UK Government’s largest public service provider, providing services and support to over 22 million people. As a result we manage Whitehall’s biggest annual budget, totalling over £165 billion. We are responsible for welfare, pensions and child maintenance policy and as the UK’s biggest public service department administer the State Pension and a range of working age, disability and ill health benefits to around 20m claimants and customers.
Every year, nearly 2 million people are assessed for health and disability benefits and services by DWP and our partners, with some 3.5 million people relying on the support they subsequently receive from us. We have a dedicated team of medical professionals supporting our Policy colleagues ensuring the right decisions are made when developing our polices and services which enables us to make a difference to the lives of millions of people.
We are now looking for a new Head Clinician that will play an influential role in ensuring that the medical advice, which helps formulate our policy decisions in a range of benefits including the Personal Independence Payment and Employment and Support Allowance, is right first time. Providing essential leadership to a team of doctors and medical professionals and using strong interpersonal and influencing skills, you will ensure the team’s expertise is deployed effectively on the Department’s priority areas of work, and to promote collaborative work on broader government objectives.
You will be a medical practitioner fully registered with the GMC, with a license to practice and at least five years of relevant experience and critically, you will have the ability to lead, motivate and inspire others with a technical knowledge that enables you to build credibility internally and externally. In return, you will have the autonomy to continuously improve the service that we offer, fostering a culture of excellence.
