Sutton Health and Care

Head of Children’s Service (Deputy Director for SHC Children’s Services)

Salary: from £70,752 to £88,368 plus an additional golden hello payment

Location: Sutton

Achieving more for the people we care for.

Sutton Health and Care is a pioneering partnership made up of the GP federation in Sutton, the London Borough of Sutton, South West London and St George’s Mental Health Trust and Epsom and St Helier hospitals. Working together, we provide children’s community health services, community services in Sutton, caring for adults in their own homes across the borough and sexual health services. Working together we can achieve more for the people we care for.

Our ambition is to support our communities to start well, live well and age well through a more personalised and joined-up approach to the delivery of health and care services. To deliver this ambition, we are looking for a Deputy Director of Children’s Service to join our team.

In this role you will provide the overall management and leadership for Children’s Health services across our borough, early Intervention services and the family hubs in Sutton. This will involve the management of staff employed across both the Council, and St George’s and Epsom & St Helier Hospitals including:

  • 0-19 healthy child service, specialist safeguarding team, early intervention service and family hubs
  • Children’s therapy, specialist school nursing and children’s continence
  • Management and leadership of the safeguarding children’s team, including attending key local safeguarding children partnership in Sutton meetings.

With over 500 colleagues now working in our organisation, collaboration is critical. Working with and alongside our Deputy Director of Adult Services, you will bring our teams and partners together in an integrated way to deliver the right services and the right time to the right people who need us most.

About you

We are seeking an inspirational and effective leader who has experience of line management in a children’s health setting. You will have managed both the strategic and operational performance of the teams you have led, with a strong focus on partnership working.

You will have the ability to lead, develop and motivate staff to achieve high performance, whilst creating innovative ways of working. We are an organisation that looks forwards not backwards, and so the ability to shape services to address future need is going to be critical to your success.

You will have good knowledge of safeguarding children, including all relevant policies, processes and national expectations. You will have strong understanding of specialist public health community nursing services for children and children’s therapy services, as well as an appreciation of the current issues and challenges facing both local authorities and the health service. This knowledge will enable you to collaborate effectively across our wide stakeholder group to deliver the best services we can for our residents.
