Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust

Chief Nursing Officer

VSM

London

For 100 years, the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust has forged new and distinctive ways of understanding and approaching all aspects of mental health and wellbeing for children and adult outpatients, locally and nationally and we have a particular expertise in psychoanalysis. We also have a strong focus on education and training – and uniquely, both an Ofsted registration for the integrated school we run; and registration with the Office for Students, for our education and training activity where we are developing plans to have degree awarding ability. One of three mental health Trusts in the North Central London ICS, we also provide services nationally and have an international reputation across a range of mental health services and education activities. We are proud to be a small independent specialist provider of innovative and high- quality services with an annual turnover of c£57m, and around nine hundred committed staff delivering. high quality services. Our last CQC inspection in 2018 rated our Trust ‘Good’.

We want to offer each person outstanding treatment and support, so those we serve can live a fulfilling life. Now seeing greater investment in mental health to correct years of underfunding, in tandem with a positive shift in societal attitudes to mental health, will strengthen our work to speak up against stigma. This backdrop presents a hugely exciting opportunity for us, those we care for, and our local communities and partners. We will build on the commitments set out in the NHS Long Term Plan and on our existing and pioneering work to take our ambitions forwards.

Our next Chief Nursing Officer will play a critical role in helping us to deliver our vision. As a member of the Trust Board and Executive, you will share accountability for overall delivery of performance and financial sustainability as well as contribute to a culture which is person centered, empowers staff, promotes personal accountability, is fair and collaborative and delivers continuous improvement.

With experience as a Director or Deputy Director of Nursing, you will provide visible and professional leadership to our nursing colleagues and passion and energy to our fantastic organisation.  Working with colleagues and across systems, you will be able to lead change demonstrate your ability to take teams with you in challenging circumstances.  Most of all, you will bring your confidence, compassion, integrity and inclusivity, role modelling the behaviours we want to see across the organisation.

Working with our partners across the Integrated Care Systems (ICS) we are focused on being an organisation where people want to work and where our services provide safe and reliable care for every person, every time.  Our partnerships are a key aspect of our success, and you will need to be skilled at collaboration across partnerships and systems. With very strong communication and interpersonal skills, you will be experienced in building and developing relationships and partnerships with a variety of stakeholders to get the best outcomes for service users and our workforce.

The communities we serve are incredibly diverse – our Trust can only provide quality care with equality, and we want to be known for both the excellent services we deliver and, how staff support and value each other as equals. We are committed to tackling discrimination and embracing diversity across our organisation and would particularly welcome applications from across the spectrum of diversity.

If you believe you bring the skills and knowledge required to be successful in this role, share the mission and vision of the Trust, and in the services the Trust provides, we would be delighted to hear from you. We are open to applications from candidates for who this would be their first Chief Nurse role.
