Divisional Director of Operations
AfC: Band 9
Location: Cambridge

The role leads a broad portfolio of specialist medical and surgical services areas.

The Trust

Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) is one of the largest and busiest hospitals in the country and is a leading clinical and academic centre with a national and international reputation for excellence. Being recognised as 'outstanding' for 'caring' and 'well led', and rated 'Good' overall by the Care Quality Commissioner, is testament to the skill and dedication of the people who work here. It is their teamwork, energy, kindness commitment and imagination that make us one of the best hospitals in the UK. This is an exciting time to join the operational leadership team at CUH who have an ambitious plan to innovate and modernise service delivery models across this high performing trust. The role leads a broad portfolio of specialist medical and surgical services areas ranging from Neurosciences, ENT, Plastic Surgery to Cardiovascular, supported by a team of experienced leaders in a wider triumvirate structure.

Alongside the internal responsibilities, the role also has a strong element of external engagement across the system and further afield. This includes shaping the future of services being delivered through partner organisations within the system as well as drawing on best practice in change management through peer reviews with other members of the Shelford Group to accelerate the process of continuous improvement.

You will also play a core role working across Divisions and the wider Trust to support and drive delivery and improvements to care for patients and the populations we serve.

In this role, you will direct and facilitate the operational performance of the Division as a complex business including the delivery of high-quality patient care, corporate and clinical governance, patient safety, clinical quality and delivery of operational and financial targets. As a member of the Divisional leadership team (Divisional 'Board'), as well as the Trust-wide senior operational leadership community, you will lead the business and strategic planning including shaping and implementing the Trust's corporate objectives within the Division with the Divisional Director.

You will enable, challenge and support Clinical Directors and operational mangers to deliver the operational performance and development of their Clinical Directorate within resource constraints (including operational management, nursing, finance and HR). You will work with the specialities within the division to promote new ways of working, developing services that are more agile and innovative, utilising the benefits of CUH's EPIC system in driving augmented reality patient pathways.

With Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Integrated Care System and the wider East of England region the Director of Operations for the Division will engage in often complex and sensitive discussions and negotiations with a range of stakeholders to improve care for patients. This will include commissioners, GPs, clinical and research specialists, both regional and national organisations.

You

The ideal profile for this role is an experienced, values-driven leader and people manager who is comfortable shaping and delivering strategic change while also driving targeted and data-driven improvements in day to day operational and clinical performance. You will have gained substantial experience of managing a large, complex health, social or similar service as well as success in working collaboratively with senior clinicians and multi-professional teams to deliver tangible goals for service users.
