Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Director of Nursing and Quality

Attractive salary

South Yorkshire

Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a high performing Trust achieving a ‘Good’ rating in our most recent CQC assessment and making significant progress in the delivery of our strategic objectives. We have a new Children’s Emergency Department and Assessment Unit which we opened in early 2021 and our state-of-the art Neonatal unit has received glowing feedback from families and our colleagues who work there. We also have a brand new Intensive Care Unit due to open shortly, which will allow us to increase our critical care capacity. As a member of the Barnsley Place Partnership and South Yorkshire Integrated Care System, we have an important contribution to making a difference to health and wellbeing of our communities in conjunction with other system partners.   We have a well-established partnership with The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust with whom we have a joint Chief Executive.

The pride and commitment of our 4,500 colleagues is inspiring and will ensure a strong and sustainable future for our organisation which is highly valued by our local communities. Our 2022-2027 Strategy is centred around our intention to be the best place to work, and this has been reflected in our latest NHS Staff Survey results which saw us listed as the best for Acute and Acute and Community Trusts in Yorkshire and the Humber. We continuously seek to improve our services, support the health and wellbeing of our workforce, introduce new and innovative ways of working, and contribute to improving population health and reducing health inequalities in Barnsley and beyond.

Our Director of Nursing and Quality, Jackie Murphy, will retire in the summer and we therefore have a fabulous opportunity for a new Director of Nursing and Quality to join our Board.  As a key Executive, you will contribute to the implementation of our strategy; shaping an exciting and sustainable future for our services and communities. Providing compassionate, visionary and professional leadership to our nurses, midwives, and allied health professionals, you will promote excellence in all areas of clinical practice, patient care and experience, ensuring that quality and patient safety is at the heart of everything we do.

We are seeking an experienced acute nursing leader who will bring passion and energy to our fantastic organisation, and lead our talented and committed clinical workforce.  Strategic, visible, and inspirational, you will be operating at or close to Board level and bring experience of working collaboratively across health and care systems with the ability to empower teams to deliver a shared vision.  If you are looking to make your mark in a progressive Trust with a passion for continuous quality improvement and innovation, we would love to hear from you. Most importantly, you will be a champion and role-model for our values of Respect, Teamwork, and Diversity.
