We are working with an NHS organisation who are seeking to appoint an interim Associate Director - Emergency Flow. This role will be for 3- 6 months and will tart ASAP..

This is an interim role that falls under the Workforce Alliance Framework and should be expected to be remunerated competitively at Band 8d/9 per day.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure effective operational support to Divisions in the management of patient flow, 7 days a week, ensuring patients receive safe and effective care in a timely manner;
  • Lead the senior management of the Discharge Team;
  • Act as the Trust lead for discharge and ensure the effective operation of the Discharge Team, ensuring discharges are safe, effective, and timely and reflect national best practise, liaising with system partners to ensure out of hospital pathways and capacity are effectively deployed to prevent delayed discharge;
  • Lead and/or participate in system level or nationally mandated improvement programmes such as virtual wards, discharge to assess;
  • Liaise with system partners, to ensure positive and constructive working relationships on all matters relating to the emergency pathway;
  • Analyse and interpret statistics and data to improve patient flows, outcomes and compliance with access targets and provide written reports on performance issues for various audiences, providing assurance up to Board level;
  • Effective working with other Hospital site teams to ensure good coordination between the sites supporting the development and implementation of agreed transfer protocols;
  • Lead on the safe implementation of operational and seasonal plans – such as winter planning and local and site-wide refurbishment programmes;
  • Responsible for the Trust’s weekend plans, ensuring a safe and effective plan to keep patients safe during the weekend;
  • Lead and manage Policies that relate to the emergency pathway, including the operational escalation policy, triggers and full capacity protocol and ensure they are well communicated and understood by staff and are robustly implemented and actioned.

The ideal candidate will have: 

  • Masters degree or equivalent, or first degree or equivalent and post graduate management
  • Diploma;
  • A comprehensive understanding of the NHS and social care system and the challenges and opportunities facing Acute Trusts;
  • Successful leadership of emergency pathway at Trust level, combined with specific knowledge of the emergency pathway in an acute setting;
  • Specific knowledge of system wide urgent care services and challenges;
  • Experience of working with system (ICS) colleagues to resolve system wide issues;
  • Senior operational leadership experience in an acute setting in either a senior corporate
  • operational role;
  • An understanding of performance management against key indicators/ productivity metrics improving  operational service delivery, quality and patient experience.
