Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Associate Medical Director for Medical Education
Sheffield; Attractive Salary
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s biggest providers of integrated hospital and community-based healthcare providing a comprehensive range of local and tertiary services to the residents of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, Mid Yorkshire and North Derbyshire and some highly specialist services to all parts of England.
Our 18,500 staff work both in the community and in our five hospitals and have a long history of delivering high quality care, training and developing high calibre multidisciplinary health professionals, clinical excellence and innovation in medical research. We are an important partner within the South Yorkshire ICS, working with colleagues in other health and social care providers and commissioners to create an integrated approach that is focused on the future health, wellbeing, and prosperity of the vibrant and diverse populations that we serve.
Joining us as our Associate Medical Director for Medical Education, you will act as the professional lead for all aspects of medical and dental education, including Postgraduate, Undergraduate, Physician Associates and other Medical Associate Professions roles. Reporting into our Medical Director (Development), Dr David Black, with the support of deputies, the Medical Directors’ Office, the Director of Education, Learning and Staff Development and other key contributors to Medical Education, you will be responsible for maintaining and developing high quality medical and dental education across our organisation.
Working within a complex, multi-stakeholder environment necessitates the ability to confidently navigate across our Trust but also across local and regional boundaries to strategically lead successful education and training provision for our doctors, supporting the delivery of excellent patient care, promoting the organisations vision, mission, strategic aims and PROUD values (Patient first, Respectful, Ownership, Unity, Deliver).
This is a rare opportunity to make your mark and address existing challenges within an established and supportive team. The Deanery has a plethora of resources, including centralised and online events and materials, and the Trust Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) team also offer expertise and resources that the Lead will be able to utilise. The post is well supported in management and administration by the whole Medical Education Team, with linkages to the wider Medical Director team and the Trust EDI team.
Future training driven, we are looking for someone to provide leadership and support to doctors and dentists across the Trust. An inclusive, enthusiastic and credible leader, the successful candidate will be a registered medical/dental professional with involvement in strategy development and implementation at a senior management level. With previous experience of working with higher education institutions, and of postgraduate and/or undergraduate education, you will have sound knowledge of the medical education agenda and current developments within this area, including the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan.
If you have the skills and experience for this role, coupled to a drive and passion for medical education, and importantly, values aligned with our own, we would be delighted to hear from you.
