The Office of the Chief Medical Officer provides expert medical and public health advice to the Minister for Health, Ministers of State and officials at all levels in the Department of Health. The Office also has direct policy responsibility for health and wellbeing and bioethics.
The Deputy Chief Medical Officer supports the Chief Medical Officer in the discharge of the functions of the office i.e., the provision of professional medical and public health advice to the Minister, Ministers of State and the Department on all aspects of health policy development.
The successful candidate(s) will;
- Possess registration (or be entitled to such registration) on the Specialist Register of the Medical Council of Ireland in Public Health Medicine;
- Have at least 7 years’ experience (after primary medical qualification) in the practice of the medical profession;
- Have relevant medical expertise, experience and authority to perform the functions of the post;
- Have a strong results focus and track record of significant achievements at senior medical level in a challenging environment;
- Have significant leadership experience and a well-developed range of interpersonal skills appropriate to the demands of the post including strong people management, influencing, negotiating and communication skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships within a complex stakeholder environment.
