At Newcastle City Council, we have big ambitions for our city and its residents. Our vision is for a friendly, proud city where everyone reaches their potential. We are focussed on tackling poverty, addressing the cost of living crisis and achieving net zero.
We are looking for an inspirational and dynamic Director of Public Health who is passionate about our vision of making Newcastle a healthier place to live and work. Someone who can build upon what we’ve learned from the pandemic and who can shape a clear path to tackle social and health inequalities exposed and amplified by it. You will lead an innovative and passionate public health team and be supported by wider council colleagues who recognise public health is everyone’s business.
Reporting to our Chief Executive, you will work across our health and social care system to drive help tackle the fundamentals of wellbeing and health through systems leadership and to maximise the opportunities of our recently established Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC).
If you are inspired by our ambitions as a core city, we’d love to hear from you.
In return, we can offer you a competitive salary and pension, a generous annual leave allowance, numerous salary sacrifice schemes, flexible and agile working arrangements, professional development opportunities and a rewarding, challenging career.
We strive to be an organisation where equality, diversity and inclusion is part of who we are and how we work and where everybody is treated fairly, with dignity and respect. We are committed to building an inclusive and supportive workplace where everyone can bring their whole self to work, succeed in being their best and where we better reflect the communities we serve.
Newcastle is a beautiful and historic city, offering excellent quality of life with extensive cultural, leisure and sporting opportunities. Geographically, it also offers superb access to coastline, countryside and areas of outstanding natural beauty.

An Advisory Appointment Committee will take place on Monday 16th October 2023 in the afternoon.
The closing date for this job is Monday 2 October at 9.00 am
