Job Details

We are working with a NHS organisation who are seeking to appoint an interim Deputy Director of Finance. The role will be for 3-6 months initially and will pay in the region of £450 - £550 per day, dependant on experience.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating financial planning activities across the organisation including developing overall operational and longer-term financial plans for the organisation to ensure the delivery of key financial targets / regulatory requirements.

  • Management of the in-year financial position and all financial reporting including in year monitoring returns to NHS England / Improvement (NHSE/I), Board and Committees, Senior Leadership Team, Financial Sustainability Board. Management of statutory annual accounts arrangements and assurance of external submissions and audit working papers.

  • Developing the financial performance framework including critically reviewing, supporting development of and challenging the adequacy of cost reduction plans.

  • Leading, coordinating and directing the organisation’s finance teams to provide excellent financial information and responsive business partnering, advice and support.

  • Provision of sound professional advice and support to the Director of Finance, other Directors and Deputy Directors in ensuring the development and implementation of financial policy and strategy for the organisation and management of the in-year position.

  • Contribute to Board workshops and / or Senior Leadership Team briefings to provide technical financial guidance.

  • Support the Associate Director of Finance, who leads on, and deputises for the Director in relation to, external partnerships and Provider Collaborative finances, to report on and provide assurance to external stakeholders and escalate any financial issues for internal action and / or mitigation, including Commissioning portfolio financial risks.

  • Provision of expert financial advice and support to the organisation by interpreting national policy and exercising personal judgement to apply knowledge to specific circumstances with minimal supervision. Contribute to Board workshops and / or Senior Leadership Team briefings to provide technical financial guidance.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • CCAB Qualification or equivalent experience gained over several years within NHS provider setting;

  • Experience of developing robust I&E forecasts and delivery of financial recovery plans;

  • Proven experience of managing teams to deliver complex change programmes and supporting operational services to release financial efficiencies;

  • Experience of operating at System level to develop shared plans and deliver shared goals and outcomes;

  • Experience of leading financial planning, budget setting, financial accounting and annual accounts processes to deliver timely and accurate statutory financial statements.
