University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust
Head of Estate Backlog Projects

Salary: Band 8b
Contract: Permanent
Location: Southampton General Hospital

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) is a large (£1bn turnover) teaching hospital providing acute services to around 1.9 million people living in Southampton and south Hampshire. We provide specialist services, including neurosciences, cardiac and specialist children’s services, to more than 3.7 million people in central southern England and the Channel Islands. Over 12,000 colleagues work at the Trust, making us one of the area’s biggest employers; we also benefit from the contributions of over 1,000 dedicated volunteers.

With an overall ‘Good’ rating from the CQC, UHS is a centre of excellence for training doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals of the future, as well as a leading research hub. We collaborate with the University of Southampton to contribute to the development of treatments for tomorrow’s patients, and to educate and develop staff at all levels, including a large apprenticeship programme, undergraduate and post-graduate education. This work distinguishes us as a hospital that works at the cutting edge of healthcare developments in the NHS and internationally. Particularly noteworthy is our nationally leading research into cancer, respiratory disease, nutrition, cardiovascular disease, bone and joint conditions and complex immune system problems.

We are now seeking to appoint a Head of Estate Backlog Projects who will lead on programme/ project management of capital strategic backlog projects. The postholder will support the Associate Director of Estates in the development and management of the estate backlog programme, ensuring that it is aligned to the Trust’s overall estates strategy, clinical and corporate priorities and EFCD critical infrastructure risk. They will also oversee the design and development and delivery of the engineering and building aspects of assigned projects, derived from the Trust’s Capital Strategic Maintenance Backlog programme.

As a suitable candidate you will be able to demonstrate excellent project management skills, combined with strong leadership and people management experience. You will be comfortable operating in a highly complex, dynamic, and fast changing environment. Most importantly, you will share the values and ambitions of our Trust.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an ambitious and high profile organisation. We are committed to ensuring that across the Trust our colleagues reflect the diverse population of our communities.
