There is an 8 weekly rolling job plan associated with this post. ITU and on-call duties are delivered during the first five weeks with a shift pattern consisting of 12.5 and 8 hour days, and night shifts where DCC is from 8pm to 11pm with on call from home thereafter.

For consultants with subspecialty in Anaesthetics their job plan includes approximately 3 weeks of an average of 5 theatre sessions/ week, which include various specialities including general surgery, trauma, orthopaedics, ENT, maxillo-facial surgery, urology, plastic surgery.

The appointee is expected to offer some flexibility in these sessions, although the theatre rota will generally be produced up to 6 weeks in advance, and it is normal practice to allocate appointees regular lists to allow for the development of team building, specific skill sets relating to areas of interest and ongoing working relationships.

Provisional assessment of Programmed Activities for a whole-time contract of 10 PA split between DCC and SPA with 1PA on call allocation, plus a 5% category A on call intensity supplement.

The timetable (as show on the Job decription) is indicative (for Dual CCT Anaesthetic consultants), and the final job plan will be agreed with the appointee before commencement in post and will be reviewed after three months, and then annually. Single CCT ICM Consultant Job plan will include further day time ICU sessions, outreach, Clinical governance and teaching sessions.

On Call The appointee will share the Consultant on-call rota for the Intensive Care Unit. This will be 1:8 with prospective cover for leave. This is planned to increase up to 1 in 10 in the near future with new appointees.

There is a separate Consultant on call rota for theatre cover out of hours.

In addition, there is a first on call trainee (airway trained) allocated to theatres, plus two trainees allocated to the ITU out of hours (minimum one airway trained). The obstetric service is covered by an associate specialist out of hours
