Executive Chief Nurse

Closing Date: 19 February

Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the second largest provider of specialist care in the UK, supporting people with a range of rare and complex medical, surgical and neurological conditions, cancers and genetic orders. We have over 2 million patient contacts each year in our main hospitals, making us one of the biggest providers of specialist care in the UK, and we serve people from across the whole of the North-East, North Cumbria and beyond.  We are continuing our journey for system’s plans for greater collaboration and development to enhance and improve clinical pathways resulting in better patient experience and outcomes.

We form a key part of one of Europe’s leading centres for research and innovation in partnership with Newcastle University and the University of Northumbria at Newcastle, and through our work with the National Institute of Health Research.  We are a core member of the North-East and North Cumbria Academic Health Science Network (NENC AHSN) and Northern Health Science Alliance (NHSA), we continue to attract major awards and commercial opportunities to the North-East.

We acknowledge that we are living in very challenging times and our Trust has much work to do to improve our performance and improve services.  This will start with responding to the findings of the CQC inspection of which the Executive Chief Nurse will play a key role alongside key executives and the wider board.  We are fully committed to achieving this and to re-establishing the Trust as one of the highest performing in the country.

As our new Executive Chief Nurse, you will provide professional leadership - and will be a visible role model - for our 7,000 nurses, midwives and AHPs as we continue to develop, ensuring that patient safety, quality of care and the experience of patients and their families are central to all we do.  You will champion a professional and open culture which empowers staff to consistently deliver quality care with compassion, whilst taking a leading role in tackling our challenges. With prior board level experience, you will be an inclusive and values-based individual, someone who is experienced in leading complex organisations and service improvement.
