University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is a large integrated acute and community provider and a major teaching hospital which is a trusted anchor institution at the heart of our communities. Playing an influential and critical role in two integrated care systems, we are an organisation of considerable scale, complexity and potential, and we recognise the important role we can play in supporting the public, patients, our own people and local partners in achieving the best of health for the local population and the communities in which they live by providing Exceptional Care Together. We have over 14,000 staff working across five hospitals and many other sites and are rated Good by the CQC, however we recognise the challenges we face and are committed to implementing the significant improvements required in our maternity services, highlighted by the recent inspection.

Pivotal to delivering these improvements and delivering exceptional care together will be the appointment of an accomplished and visionary leader to join our Board. The Executive Chief Medical Officer will play a crucial role in shaping the future of healthcare delivery across our systems.

As the Executive Chief Medical Officer, you will be a key member of our executive leadership team, responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership to our medical and clinical teams. Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will contribute to the overall organisational strategy, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred care. This role presents a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the health and well-being of our community while leading a talented and dedicated team of healthcare professionals.

We are seeking someone with extensive clinical experience, ideally within a leadership or executive role in a healthcare setting of comparable scale and complexity. You will evidence a proven track record of successful strategic planning and delivery resulting in improved outcomes and a strong understanding of healthcare policies, regulations, and quality improvement methodologies. To succeed in this role, you will need excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills as well as a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in healthcare.

You will be an effective role model, exhibiting and promoting collaborative leadership behaviours that uphold our values of Compassion, Openness and Excellence, providing strategic vision, challenge and support to all colleagues in the Trust.

In this appointment process we are actively seeking candidates from a range of diverse and inclusive backgrounds who offer the executive skills required to take our Trust forward, and your values and ability to inspire and harness the talents of others is critical for us.

This is a significant and impactful opportunity, and if your values and ambition match ours and the opportunity to be a leader of our Trust attracts you, then we very much look forward to hearing from you.
