Finegreen are currently supporting a University Health Board in the appointment of an Interim Health and Safety professional to provide specialist advice and guidance in respect of the development of Health & Safety arrangements at both a strategic and operational level.

This is a remote / home based interim post.

Job Purpose:

In partnership with the Head of Health, Safety and Security the post holder will monitor the organisations compliance with the requirements of relevant Health & Safety related legislation, Assembly policy and guidance specifically related to the management of Health & Safety.

The Deputy Head of Health & Safety will support the development, implementation and management of all relevant Policies, Procedures, Protocols and Guidelines in relation to the management of Health & Safety.



Key responsibilities will include:
  • Manage the Health and Safety function through the provision of expert and specialist advice on Health and Safety at an operational level. Interpret national guidance and legislation to make it pertinent and understandable at all operational levels, through a comprehensive training and development programme;
  • Provide effective line management and development to the Health and Safety team including the Health and Safety Managers and Advisors;
  • Provide leadership, a focus for and to promote Health and Safety Management issues;
  • Undertake research using comprehensive/ complex research tools to minimise the risk of poor safety performance management;
  • Liaise with the Health and Safety Executive and other enforcement agencies, Assembly Government representation, as necessary;
  • Provide support in the development of a fully comprehensive risk assessment process, including Health and Safety.


The ideal candidate will have:
  • Post Grad diploma / BSc / NEBOSH diploma;
  • Extensive experience of developing and delivering health and safety / non clinical risk training;
  • Experience of working in a health and safety / non clinical risk management role in an acute healthcare environment or equivalent complex organisation;
  • The ability to speak Welsh is desirable, however, not essential.
