“Improving Together for Mental Health”
Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) provides mental health and learning disability care for people across Norfolk and Suffolk. We are dedicated to providing high quality care with compassion, delivering many of the NHS services that are provided outside of hospital and in the community. We have clinical teams providing services in inpatient, community and primary care settings. Our teams currently work in geographic care groups with dedicated local clinical leadership teams. We support a population of just over 1.6 million people and have a dedicated workforce of over 5,000 staff. Our biggest bases are at Hellesdon Hospital, Norwich, Wedgwood House, Bury St Edmunds and Woodlands Unit in Ipswich but our staff are based in more than 50 locations.
We believe in ‘working together for better mental health’. We’re working closely with health and care partners and voluntary sector organisations to transform mental health care to ensure the people of Norfolk and Suffolk get help and support in the right place for them, when they need it, to stay mentally and emotionally well.
As an organisation NSFT has for many years struggled to provide the quality of care that we would wish to provide, and our service users and carers deserve. This is despite the extraordinary efforts of our hard working, committed and professional staff. The CQC’s most recent inspection report published in February 2023 has improved our overall rating from Inadequate to Requires Improvement whilst our staff continue to be rated Good for Caring overall. We know that we are at an early stage of our improvement journey and that whilst this is an indication we are able to change and improve our services, we still have a very long way to go. We rightly remain under significant scrutiny and are working hard to address recent deficiencies identified in the way in which we report and record patient deaths.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an exceptional leader to join us as our Chief Nursing Officer. As a key member of the Trust Board, you will have shared responsibility for performance, quality, workforce, finance and implementation of regional and national priorities. Working closely, in particular, with the Chief Medical Officer you will take a lead role jointly for our clinical workforce and governance
As an experienced nursing leader who is either a registered Mental Health Nurse or registered Nurse Learning Disability you will have a passion for our work and a track record of achievement in influencing colleagues and partners to deliver high quality care. Inspirational and compassionate, you will be responsible for professional standards and the development of our nursing colleagues. You will lead the Trust’s Quality Plan, working closely with the Medical Director and you will develop a regional presence so that we are able to engage on matters relevant to the people we serve.
If you have a reputation for inspirational leadership, quality and improvement, a passion for improving outcomes and a focus on equity and inclusion to ensure that mental health provision has parity across our partners then please consider applying for this role.
We are committed to equality of opportunity for all. We know that the best Boards are those that reflect the communities they serve, and therefore we would particularly welcome applications from those who are under-represented at Board level in the NHS.
