We are seeking a distinguished and experienced professional to serve as the Chair of Serious Hazards of Transfusion (SHOT) Steering Group which is part of the NHS and focuses on haemovigilance. This honorary position is pivotal in guiding the strategic direction of this organisation and ensuring the successful implementation of key initiatives to enhance transfusion safety in the UK.
About Us
Serious Hazards of Transfusion (SHOT) is the UK’s professionally led haemovigilance scheme. This is funded by the four UK Blood Transfusion Services and hosted by NHS Blood and Transplant.
SHOT Mission Statement: To improve patient safety in blood transfusion
SHOT Aims:
- Improve standards of hospital transfusion practice Educate users on transfusion hazards and their prevention
- Aid production of transfusion guidelines
- Inform policy within the UK Blood Services
- Inform national policy on transfusion safety within the UK
- Help promote haemovigilance globally
We are seeking a distinguished and experienced professional to serve as the Chair of the SHOT Steering Group. This honorary, non-remunerated position is pivotal in guiding the strategic direction of the prestigious organisation and ensuring the successful implementation of key safety initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in a senior leadership or safety role within healthcare
- Proven track record of strategic planning and execution of safety initiatives in a healthcare setting
- Strong understanding of healthcare systems, policies, and best practices
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to foster collaboration and build consensus among diverse stakeholders
- Passionate about advancing healthcare quality and innovation
- Commitment to improving patient and staff safety
- Prior transfusion experience and association with the SHOT Steering Group and Working Expert Group activities is desirable but not essential

Time Commitment:
- Flexible, with an expected commitment of 4 hours per month Participation in 6 monthly
- Steering Group meetings, monthly catch-up meetings with the SHOT Medical Director and additional strategic planning sessions as needed.
