NJR Board NHS Trust Management Representative
The National Joint Registry (NJR) covers England, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, and Guernsey. It has been collecting data in the NHS and independent sector, for hip and knee joint replacement surgery since 2003, ankle joint replacement surgery since 2010 and elbow and shoulder joint replacement surgery since 2012 and now holds in excess of 4 million records, making it the largest joint replacement register in the world. It is recognised as a ‘global exemplar’ of an implantable medical devices registry and has considerable influence and reputation, both nationally and internationally.
The NJR logo strapline: ‘working for patients, committed to excellence’ defines the purpose of the registry. NJR data are used to drive quality improvement amongst clinicians and inform and reassure patients. With a key focus on patient safety, improving clinical standards and ensuring the quality and value of joint replacement surgery, the NJR monitors surgeon, trust and implant performance and reports outcomes to provide an early warning of issues relating to patient safety. It provides evidence of variations in outcomes achieved across surgical practice to inform best practice, enhances patient awareness of joint replacement outcomes to aid patient choice, supports evidence-based purchasing of joint replacement implants for healthcare providers to improve quality and value, supports implant manufacturers in the routine post-market surveillance of implants and supports and enables related research. The NJR provides a range of performance reporting services for hospitals, clinicians, and implant manufacturers, including personalised annual performance reports, interactive data services and electronic feedback services.
Strategically the NJR is about to embark on an important and exciting time of its development, as it becomes a ‘model’ for the national agenda to pursue wider medical device registry development. This will present challenges and opportunities and involve extended work and collaboration with other key national bodies such as NHS England, working at the forefront of the development of medical device registries.
We are looking to appoint an NHS Trust Management Representative to the NJR Board. This is a key role to represent the interests and views of NHS Trust Management as part of the NJRB's responsibilities to ensure the effective running of the NJR and to feed into the NJR's Strategic and Annual Plans.

The closing date for applications is midnight on Sunday 2 February 2024.
Interviews will be held on Wednesday 12 February 2024
